About Afolake Legacy
My story isn’t one of perfection or easy victories. It’s one of courage, resilience, and the unwavering belief that even in the face of adversity, we can rise.
Born in the United Kingdom as the youngest of six children, my father came to the UK in 1958 on a scholarship to study accounting. After qualifying as a management accountant, he worked for the Post Office before relocating our family to Nigeria when I was just five.
Growing up in Nigeria shaped me. I was always curious, questioning everything—even the things society told me not to. I vividly remember asking my father at age 10 why we were six children living in a modest two-bedroom flat, struggling to make ends meet. In the 1970s, questioning your parents was taboo, and my father quickly shut the conversation down. Yet, that moment lit a fire in me—a desire to change the narrative for underprivileged children and ensure they had access to the support and opportunities they deserve.
After completing my early education in Nigeria, I returned to the UK in the 1980s to further my studies. My first career was in management accounting, which I pursued for a decade. But my heart was always drawn to a deeper purpose.
In the early 2000s, I made a life-changing decision to transition into supporting vulnerable children. As a single mother to my two wonderful children, Akolade and Temitope, I juggled parenthood and purpose—facing challenges that taught me resilience, grace, and strength. Every chapter of my life—from betrayal to breakthroughs—has taught me valuable lessons. These experiences built the foundation for what I would go on to create.

Years of Driving Social Change
Honouring the Past, Building the Future
In 2018, I co-founded the Badara Kafaru Foundation Nigeria, in honour of my late father. What started as a tribute has blossomed into a beacon of hope, supporting over 1,400 families with quality groceries and empowering over 700 youths with financial assistance, clothing, books, and career resources.
Now, as I celebrate my 60th birthday, I’m launching a new chapter:
AFOLAKE LEGACY
In celebration of Afolake’s 60th birthday in August 2025, she partnered with the Christian Broadcasting Network UK and raised over £10,000 for vocational training in shoe-making, leatherwork and entrepreneurship skills for young adults in Kano Nigeria. A legacy of hope and opportunity for the next generation.
The program aims to create economic opportunities and promote financial independence for women and youth living in areas with high poverty rates, unemployment, crime, and insurgency. In addition to developing shoe-making skills.
Participants will learn basic book keeping , business management and how to save money. Women and Youth will be better equipped to generate sustainable income streams and even return to school to complete their education
This legacy project is more than just skills, it’s about economic empowerment, job creation, and building a generation of entrepreneur ready to break cycles of poverty and lead with purpose.
Because I believe legacy isn’t just about what we leave behind…. It’s about what we build, who we impact, and the lives we transform along the way.
